Milburn Creek Thoroughbred stud was established in the 1970's.

The Stud was created by John Muir and John's Late Father Leslie Muir who also founded Muirs Motors Ashfield - one of the original Sydney Holden car franchises.

The Stud was originally located at Milburn Creek Cowra in the Central West of New South Wales and operated there until the late 1980's. It was relocated to Nepean Stud Farm in the Hawkesbury Valley because of its close proximity to Sydney, fertile undulating country, quality of pastures and abundance of water for irrigation use.
Over the years the Stud has continued to produce numerous winners, with the main objective to breed and sell quality yearlings that will train on to win races at the highest level, preferably at Group One. John Muir proudly served on the Committee of Thoroughbred Breeders NSW for 13 years.

He retired as president in 2008. Many of the advantages breeders enjoy today which includes free returns, live foal guarantees and extended service fee payments all happened under John Muir's term. The most important while president, was the unification of TBA and Aushorse.
John is currently a representative of the Animal Care and Ethics Committee of Racing NSW.
